How I Wash My Makeup Brushes

We’ve heard somewhere that we should clean our makeup brushes every so often. But if I’m being honest, I probably do it once every month or every other month. Forgive me if that sounds nasty but I don’t use my brushes everyday anyways so I think that counts? Lol. Enough of my confessions here and I’ll start taking you through an easy peasy way of  how I wash my brushes.

dsc03918 Things I use:
– brush egg (bought from forever21 for about C$5) I believe it’s also available on eBay
– hard soap (freebies from hotels) or body wash/liquid soap/baby shampoo
– towel

1. Wet the dirty brush through running water

2. Swirl it around the soapdsc03925 dsc03926
3. Swirl it around the brush egg

4. Swirl the brush and brush egg through runing water

5. Squeeze out excess water and lay it flat on the towel

I usually let it dry overnight and it’ll be ready in the morning. I’ve tried washing with my hands but I found that it is too drying and abrasive on my hands. The brush egg works best because it protects my hands and it has ridges that help scrub through all the grime from my brushes. This method probably takes me only about 10 mins! Super easy and cheap!

Tell me how you guys wash your brushes so I can try different methods!

IMATS Toronto 2016 Haul and Experience

I’ve been having second thoughts about posting this because it’s already been 2 weeks since IMATS. I have already used some of these products and have been loving them so far!

It was a crazy IMATS experience! I got there at 9am, and was shocked about how many people there are lined up all for makeup. I got inside at about 10:10am and went straight to the Morphe booth. That’s even a crazier line. My feet were so sore that I ended up sitting on the floor while I was in line! I switched turns with my friend so we can go around while the other stayed in line. That happened for about 5 hours. I noticed the Morphe staff started stopping people from lining up at 11:30am because they think that people wouldn’t be able to get on to the booth before it closes. It’s that crazy. I got inside the booth at about 3pm and reached the end at about 4pm. I’ll stop rambling now and show you guys what deals I got!

Kat Von D had 30% off everything plus a lot of bundles!

It was Kat Von D’s first year at the IMATS and their booth was amazing! Their line up was the second longest one next to Morphe and followed by Nyx being the 3rd longest. I appreciated how Kat Von D gave out a menu/checklist so you can decide what to get while you stay in line. They also gave out 2 free mini liquid lipsticks for every bag!

Sneaking in a little thank you to the Kat Von D staff for giving me and my coworkers this generous goody bag!

dsc03985-01All the Morphe brushes are displayed in Canadian dollars. They didn’t advertise any sale but I converted online US prices to CAD and I found that they were about 10% off at IMATS. Some of the staff were great. I did have a list with me and the guy grabbed it and got me every single thing that I have listed. So much time was saved! I do wish that Morphe had more lines for payment because that’s where I saw a backup in line. I was also disappointed that there was a mistake with my purchase. As I was on my way home, I read the receipt and found that they charged me double on the flat kabuki brush. Morphe owes me 8 dollars! I didn’t want to complain so I just brushed it off. I won’t get it back anyways. Lol

dsc03994-01-01Benefit was my favourite booth. Their lineup wasn’t crazy and all the products were 40% off! They also had a checklist that showed all the prices which made my purchase a lot quicker. I got the Hervana blush, 2 Goof Proof Brow Pencils (which I now have grown to love. Review here.), and a Gimme Brow. The pink set was from the Virtzu booth that sold Beauty Blenders. This box was C$35 that includes 2 Beauty Blenders, a mini Porefessional, and a mini BeneTint.

I have been wanting a Z Palette to declutter my eyeshadow palettes. I regretted not getting one from last year so I just grabbed one right away. This was only C$16! So much cheaper than the one sold at Sephora!

It was my second year attending IMATS Toronto and I’m honestly thinking that this would be the last. I can’t figure out if it’s all worth it just to feed my addiction to makeup. Some of the deals were great but some were just meh. All that trouble and sore feet for makeup? Who knows, I might have a completely different say this time next year, right??

Tips for future attendees:

  • wear comfy shoes
  • bring cash
  • check your receipts before leaving
  • bring water!
  • try your best to bring a list of the things you want to buy (especially if youre going there for Morphe)
  • I would suggest being there at 11am because lineups to go in would be a lot shorter by then.

Do you guys have any more tips? How were your experience at the recent IMATS?

Eye Brushes | What I Use Them For

A quick post about the eye brushes that are in constant rotation in my collection and what I use them for! These brushes are all affordable and are of good quality.

Bdellium Tools 783 Small Tapered Blending – $10 US
outer V brush
This type of brush just makes it easier to apply eyeshadow on your outer V’s. The tapered tip works great when you need more of a detailed eye look and the thicker base to blend it all out.

Bdellium Tools 755 Smudge – $8 US
lower lash line smudger
A must-have for a smokey eye. It is a basic smudger that I use for applying eyeshadow on my lower lash line. I also use this to smoke out my eyeliner to avoid harsh lines.

Morphe E27 Pro Round Blender – $6.99 US
crease/fluffy blending brush
The softest brush ever! This is the first brush I pick up when I’m putting on ANY eye makeup. I use this to put on my transition/skin tone shades to make blending easier. I also use this when I feel like contouring my nose. It makes blending so much easier!

Morphe E23 Deluxe Blender – $6.99 US
crease/ blending/ cream and mousse-y eyeshadows
It looks extremely similar to the E27 above, but on closer look and feel this is a lot denser. This brush is best used to apply cream eyeshadows and ColourPop Eyeshadows as I have described here.  I love that the Morphe brushes have the best quality among all my brushes and yet they are the cheapest!

Sonia Kashuk Synthetic Angled Eye Liner Brush – $9.19 US
detailed eye liner/brow brush
This is the only brush I use for my Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade. It is just a normal liner brush just like other brands but I specifically love the shape of the handle! So sexy. I’m just so sad that Target packed their bags and left Canada. No more Sonia Kashuk for me!

Make Up Geek Soft Dome Brush – $8.50 US
This is the softer and fluffier version of the Bdellium 783. It could double up as an outer V brush and a blending brush. It is very soft and a good multitasker. This is the first brush that I bought and I used it to blend, pack on shadows, outer V smoker, and smudger.

What are your favorite eye brushes at the moment?

P.S. Face brushes coming soon!
